A trend-following, price-smoothing indicator — a visual candle transformation tool that recalculates Open, High, Low, and Close values using the Heiken Ashi formula to produce a smoother, noise-filtered candlestick display.
SFE Heiken Ashi is not a standalone buy or sell signal. The shape and color of HA candles reflect a smoothed view of price movement — the trader uses them as part of their own trend analysis and makes decisions independently.
Key Features
Standard Heiken Ashi formula. HA Close is calculated as (O+H+L+C)/4, and HA Open as the average of the previous HA Open and HA Close. This is a mathematically correct, industry-standard implementation.
Native chart color inheritance. The indicator automatically adopts the chart's existing Up/Down candle colors and border settings via OnApplyDefaultColors — fitting seamlessly into any workspace theme without manual color configuration.
Overlaid on the price panel. The indicator renders directly on the main price chart panel (DenyToChangePanel = true), giving a clean side-by-side comparison with raw price action without taking up a separate panel.
Dual-platform compatibility. The indicator runs natively on both ATAS Classic and ATAS X, with automatic version detection.
Zero configuration required. No complex settings to tune — add it to the chart and it works instantly.
How It Works
For each bar, the indicator reads the real candle's Open, High, Low, and Close values and applies the Heiken Ashi recalculation:
The resulting candles are stored in a CandleDataSeries and rendered as a separate candle layer on the chart. Because each HA candle's open is anchored to the previous bar's HA values, the resulting chart is significantly smoother than raw price — making trends, consolidations, and reversals easier to read visually.
Settings
SFE Heiken Ashi is intentionally minimal — it works out of the box with no required configuration. Candle colors automatically match your chart theme. For advanced users, internal parameters (Border Thickness, Candle Width %, Show Wicks, Blend Ratio) are available in the code but not exposed in the settings panel by design, keeping the UI clean and simple.
Example Use Cases
Trend identification. A trader overlays SFE Heiken Ashi on an ES futures 5-minute chart. A sequence of bullish HA candles with no lower wicks may be seen as a sign of a strong uptrend — the trader holds long positions until the first HA candle with a visible upper wick appears, which they may interpret as a possible sign of weakening momentum.
Noise reduction for order flow confirmation. Combined with Flow Scanner Pro, the trader uses HA candles to determine trend direction and only takes order flow signals (from Flow Scanner Pro) that align with the HA trend — filtering out counter-trend noise.
Reversal detection. A shift from a sequence of red HA candles to a small-bodied, doji-like HA candle followed by a green candle may signal a potential trend reversal — the trader uses this as one of several visual entry triggers, alongside volume confirmation.

Detects limit walls on footprint charts — levels where high volume absorbed aggressive orders. Highlights absorption zones and builds support/resistance zones using imbalance ratio and candle anatomy. Compatible with ATAS Classic and X.

A big-trade and order flow indicator for ATAS that flags significant market orders using dynamic volume thresholds. Structural filters let traders isolate aggressive executions within specific candle zones — body, wicks, highs, lows.

A real-time order flow dashboard: shows momentum and liquidity on the chart using needle gauges. Up to 7 metrics (Speed of Tape, Delta DOM, Delta Volume) help traders quickly read order book pressure. Compatible with ATAS Classic and X.

SmartFlow Edge turns complex quantitative and order flow strategies into indicators, algorithmic solutions, and low-latency analytical software — integrated with the ATAS Classic and ATAS X analytics platforms.
